The Need for Anti Depression Medication
Anti depression medication is very important in order to help people who are seriously suffering from a mental illness and require the aid of these medications provide in order to be able to function in daily life. Unfortunately, there are far too many peopling who routinely consuming anti depression medication and they really do not require it. This is because of the ever growing number of people looking for the quick fix to everything. Doctors all too often succumb to the pressure and will opt to request the medication the patient is seeking in order to simply process another patient. This is not to say these people are not suffering. The valid question really should ask - are they suffering from a true mental illness.
What Is The Difference
This, of course, raises the question. What are they suffering from if not a true mental illness? The answer may not be that hard to answer. Often time people experience what is called situational depression. This is not a true mental illness. It is simply a state where symptoms are experienced due to a number of issues that are causing some form of conflict in the person’s life.
The person is simply prescribed an anti depression medication but what they might actually benefit more from, some professional psychiatric counselling. This may be a professional psychologist or it may be they just need someone to really hear them out, or help them out with ways of dealing with issues such as stress, or financial problems, which may be the root of their depressive symptoms.
For those that have a true mental illness anti depression medication can really help to get them into a state where they can function in life. It may take a significant amount of time, several visits, in order to determine whether or not a person has a true mental illness. Anti depression medication alters the chemistry in the brain. For those that have a true mental illness this can alter it to behave in a more normal pattern.
However, for people who are simply suffering a depressive episode brought on by issues or conflict within their lives, taking anti depression medication can actually create significant negative impact and quality of life can be lost because these medications unnecessarily impede normal function.
For many of these people, psychological counselling may be all that is required to correct the issue. Today’s society, which promotes over medication or a pill to fix all problems, could sometimes in haste contribute to complicating the problems. It is known that individuals who are not suffering from a true mental illness but who take anti depression medication for it may in fact be more likely to develop the condition.
